We found out that when the sun goes down, Boca Raton heats up. We purposely missed Ft. Lauderdale’s spring break frenzy, and came to Boca, but we were still in search of some nightlife, and boy did we find it. We wanted something more than the neighborhood bar, or where 20-somethings let loose, we wanted the unusual. The concierge at our really cool hotel , told us about the night club ‘The Funky Buddha Lounge’, she said we would not be bored with this club because you can never tell what performances will be there, like indie bands, poetry slams, fashion shows or even a comical magic show, plus she recommended we eat there as well.
We took our concierges advice and checked out The Funky Buddha Lounge When we arrived, it was a Wednesday night, which at Funky Buddha means open mic night, when we walked in, we saw all kinds of people inside the club, from artistic types to the upper echelon. The atmosphere was really electric with anticipation of what great performances might come from ‘open mic’ night. We were seated at our cushions with a hookah, and while we waited for open mic night to begin, we ordered the Kava by the shell and fresh hummus. We didn’t dare try the hookah; we don’t smoke. We had a great time talking with the local artists, they were the most friendliest; the upper echelon also let their hair down and told us that this is the only place where they feel comfortable, because no one here judges them, and Funky Buddha is where they can get a good laugh or listen to some excellent poetry.
So, after stuffing ourselves with the best hummus and really juicy Kava, we settled in for the night to be entertained by possibly the next poet laureate, or the next up and coming stand-up comedian. We know what you’re thinking, that this doesn’t sound like any ‘club’ you’ve been to, and you are right! It’s not, it’s so much more.
